The B-fifty Who?

What do you get when you combine an October night, with a Chinese restaurant, and a couple of drinks in 1976? What, you don't know this one? You get the B-52's! Yes, this is how they were formed, at least it came out to be a big success. One more or one less drink, who knows what they would have come up with?

The B-52's, formed by Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson, and Ricky Wilson started performing at a friend's house on Valentine's Day. The name B-52's is apparently, Southern slang for "bouffant hairdos."

After getting their hands on any deal they could find, Chris Blackwell produced their first album and it was a success. They must have been in the right place at the right time because they were the center of the New Wave movement in the 1980s. Maybe that was factored into their plan in the beginning.

From friend's houses to MTV, the B-52's were moving up in the music world with multiple tours and being regulars on MTV.

Sadly, they hit a huge obstacle, when Ricky Wilson died in 1985. They were able to recover and produce more top of the line albums like Cosmic Thing.

As always, members go off on their own, but eventually come back to where they all got started. They have been touring and creating great pieces of music ever since, always being different from everyone else.

The B-52's have been around the world, showing everyone that you can be different and still be successful. They will be making a landing in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Beach, in September, and will make waves till everyone is watching because they know that this all started at a Chinese restaurant 35 years ago.
