Miscellaneous Information:

The band got its name after an unsuccessful radio contest to name the group, when then roadie John Villaneuva suggested the name “Journey” and the band’s first public appearance came at the Winterland Ballroom on New Year’s Eve 1973. In 1977 Journey hired Steve Perry as their new lead singer and Perry added a clean tenor sound and the band became a true pop act and released their fourth album, Infinity in 1978 it reached No. 21 on the charts and gave the band their first RIAA-certified platinum album plus their hit singles “Lights” and “Wheel in the Sky”. Capitalizing on their success, Journey went onto record radio commercials for Budweiser and sold rights to their likenesses and music for two video games: the Journey arcade game by Bally/Midway and Journey Escape by Data Age for the Atari 2600.

The bands logo is that of a scarab beetle, a symbol borrowed from Egyptian Hieroglyphs.  Over the years Journey songs have been referred to in numerous films, television shows, video games, and even on Broadway.  The songs of Journey will be forever remembered as part of a musical genre that crossed many barriers to be loved by many.

Journey is back on the road after lead singer Arnel Pineda has recovered from inflammation off his larynx and esophagus. The vocal issues had led to a brief stop in touring, but now that Pineda has the all clear from the doctors, Journey tickets for a Las Vegas show with Loverboy will remain as scheduled. The group had many worried they would not be able to sing along to “Don’t Stop Believin’” to close the night, but now they can live it up “Any Way You Want It”.

The group is officially on tour for the album Eclipse, but everyone knows this concert tour is about celebrating the past and its rock anthems. Expect to hear “Anything is Possible” and “City of Hope” from the new album with possibly one other deep cut from the new effort. The majority of the setlist is going to be a venerable live greatest hits album. This means plenty of songs from the beloved albums from height of Journey’s popularity from Infinity in 1978 to Raised on the Radio in 1986.

Combined, these albums went 25-times platinum. Few groups enjoy that kind of success in the whole of their career. Journey has and they have been rewarding avid fans with constant touring since reuniting in 1995 after a decade apart. The group continuing to keep the name Journey alive is a bit different than the roster during the height of the band’s popularity. Gone are lead singer Steve Perry and drummer Steve Smith. Instead, Pineda has taken over as the lead singer and Deen Castronovo is the third drummer in the group’s history. Otherwise, Neal Schon remains the lead guitarist, Ross Valory is still the bassist, and Jonathan Cain keeps on playing the keys.

Yet, despite these changes, Journey continues to sing the same songs that made them an international phenomenon and a karaoke favorite. This time around the tour includes support from Lover Boy and Pat Benatar, making this a fabulous chance to relive the 1980s in concert.
