The alternative rock group from Bangor, Northern Ireland was started in 1994. It rose to fame in 2003 after releasing a hit major label album, Final Straw, which went platinum. This was at the back of unsuccessful album releases between 1997 and 2001. Snow Patrol the band, had tried to make their mark on the music scene with the release of three albums. To their credit, they did not buckle, instead they refined their craft and were eventually rewarded in 2003.

Three years later in 2006, the group took to the skies once more with their album, Eyes Open, thanks to the chart topping single, "Chasing Cars." The feat spurred them to international recognition. In the UK, the album became the best selling album release of that year with over six million copies. From then the outfit went on to release three more albums between 2008 and 2011.

The outfit is a recipient of several awards which include three Brit Awards as well as five Meteor Ireland Music Awards. In 2012, they embarked on a tour dubbed Fallen Empires Tour (named after they 2011 album). The tour kicked off on 20 January, with the first leg taking them from Dublin, Ireland to twenty-one other cities in Europe, ending March 7. The gigs in Belfast, London, Dublin and Rotterdam lasted more than one day.

The second leg saw the group rocking fans in the Middle East, as they made debut appearances in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. From March 29, the outfit takes its spell bound road show to North America. Starting with Orlando, Florida, followed by Miami Beach, Florida and thirty other cities around the United States and Canada. While in Canada they will serenade fans in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

In June 2010, Snow Patrol the band were honored by PRS with a Heritage Award. The award also entailed a plaque that was put up on a pub in Belfast. This is in commemoration of their first ever public appearance which took place at the pub.
