Bonnie Raitt is the singer and guitarist that has become a legend as a blues artist, a country singer, and one of the advents of the folk-rock movement. It took a while, roughly two decades, but eventually she would become an internationally star. She has certainly had an incredible career. The daughter of John Raitt, a Broadway star, and Marjorie Haydock, a pianist, Bonnie seemed destined to pursue some kind of a career in music. She learned to play the guitar at a young age and would leave Harvard in her sophomore year to follow Dick Waterman, a blues promoter, to Philadelphia.

Eventually she signed with Warner Bros., and would release album after album. These recordings would yield little commercial success, but would make her a favorite of the critics. Critics praise is not enough to support an artist. At times she showed some promise, but eventually Warner Bros would drop her and she would find a new home with Capitol Records.

It would not take long for her to make good on all her promise. Bonnie Raitt had finally begun her golden age with Nick of Time, her 10^th album. Nick of Time would go 5-time platinum. Bonnie struck a chord with “Something to Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me”. Raitt closed out the decade with three more albums that at least went platinum. Luck of the Draw is her best-selling album of her career, going 7-time platinum. This string of hits has yielded an incredible 9 Grammy Awards.

Since then, magazines like Rolling Stone have heaped praise upon the artist. She is in their Top 100 for best singers and best guitarist. Combine this with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just into the 21^st century and the singer and guitarist is a must see once she announces a tour.
